The San Francisco Police Department’s (SFPD) Traffic Unit conducted a DUI saturation patrol on April 20, focusing on identifying and apprehending drivers under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The patrol resulted in the arrest of three individuals for DUI, along with the issuance of 10 citations during 22 traffic stops. Notably, two of the citations were given to unlicensed drivers, with one of them facing an additional arrest for an outstanding warrant.
The SFPD’s DUI saturation patrol was conducted from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m. on Saturday, with the aim of reducing crashes involving impaired drivers. According to the department, well-publicized DUI checkpoints and patrols have been proven to decrease such crashes by up to 20%.
The SFPD strongly advises drivers to avoid driving while impaired, as the consequences can be severe. Those caught driving under the influence face the potential for jail time, fines, fees, DUI classes, and other expenses that can exceed $10,000.
