Three Impaired Driving Arrests in Kawartha Lakes in Three Hours

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in the City of Kawartha Lakes had a busy Friday evening, making three impaired driving arrests within a three-hour span. Two of the incidents involved collisions, highlighting the dangerous consequences of driving under the influence.

The first incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 7 and Dew Drop Inn Road in Lindsay. A collision involving a car resulted in two individuals being transported to Ross Memorial Hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the car, a 27-year-old man from Minden, Ontario, was arrested and charged with operation while impaired (blood-alcohol concentration 80-plus). His vehicle was impounded for seven days, and his driver’s license was suspended for 90 days. He is scheduled to appear in court in Lindsay at a later date.

An hour later, the OPP responded to a report of a suspected impaired driver travelling along County Road 121 near the village of Kinmount. Upon locating the vehicle, officers determined that the driver was impaired. A 39-year-old man from Bowmanville, Ontario, was subsequently arrested and charged with operation while impaired (blood-alcohol concentration 80-plus) and driving while under suspension. He was held in custody pending a bail hearing in Lindsay.

The third incident occurred around 9:30 p.m. when OPP and emergency crews responded to a crash involving a minivan on Highway 7 near Mount Horeb Road, just west of Omemee. The driver, a 72-year-old man from Omemee, was charged with two counts of operation while impaired (alcohol and drugs, and blood-alcohol concentration 80-plus). His license was suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

These incidents serve as a stark reminder of the dangers of driving under the influence. The OPP urges all motorists to make responsible choices and find alternative transportation options if they plan to consume alcohol or drugs. Always remember to plan ahead and ensure a safe ride home.
