Three Killed in Route 1 Crash Identified

The victims of a horrific crash that claimed the lives of three people on Route 1 have been identified by the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.

The van carrying two patients from Princeton-based Community Options crashed into a truck carrying a 50,000-pound concrete warehouse wall in the intersection at Ridge Road on April 12. The truck and van caught fire, causing severe damage to the pavement and leading to an eight-hour road closure for repaving.

Five vehicles were involved in the crash. Middlesex County Prosecutor Yvonne Ciccione identified the victims as driver Charisse Nelson-Bailey, 22, and patients Maria Passalaris, 25, and Daniel Vida, 25, who were on their way to a day program.

According to Ciccone, no charges have been filed as the investigation continues.

Charisse Nelson-Bailey was a beloved sister and cousin who enjoyed spending time with her family and creating unforgettable memories. Her obituary described her as a warm and loving person who cherished their bond.

Daniel Vida, a resident of West Windsor, enjoyed nature, music, and good company. A memorial gathering will be held for him on Friday.

Maria Passalaris, a resident of Montgomery, was an active member of her community. She competed in track and field at Special Olympics and was an honorary member of her church’s choir. Her parents described her as a loving and sweet soul who will be dearly missed.

The victims’ families and friends are mourning their loss and seeking solace in their memories.
