The last few days of the month can be a bit slow for new releases on streaming services, with the bulk of new movies dropping on the first of the month. But fear not, Hulu subscribers! The streaming service has a treasure trove of films to keep you entertained this weekend. Here are three fantastic movies you absolutely need to add to your watchlist:
1. The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent (2022)
Could anyone else but Nicolas Cage (aka Longlegs) play Nick Cage? Maybe John Malkovich in his younger days? But director Tom Gormican chose the next best thing: casting Cage himself in the action comedy, *The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent*. This movie shows Cage at a career low, struggling with his ex-wife, Olivia Henson (Sharon Horgan), and daughter, Addy Cage (Lily Mo Sheen). The only bright spot in his life is Javi Gutiérrez (Pedro Pascal), a billionaire and Cage’s biggest fan. Javi is obsessed with making a movie with Cage, and the actor reluctantly agrees when the CIA recruits him to spy on his newfound friend. With a woman’s life on the line, Cage finds himself entangled in a high-stakes mission. Don’t miss *The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent* on Hulu.
2. See How They Run (2022)
Get ready for a blend of comedy and mystery in director Tom George and screenwriter Mark Chappell’s homage to Agatha Christie, *See How They Run*. While Christie (Shirley Henderson) has a small role in the story set in 1953, the focus is on Inspector George Stoppard (Sam Rockwell), a drunken mess paired with an inexperienced officer, Constable Stalker (Saoirse Ronan), to investigate the murder of American director Leo Kopernick (Adrien Brody). Before his untimely demise, Kopernick was adapting Christie’s play *The Mousetrap* for the big screen. But with a string of enemies, Kopernick had plenty of people who wanted him dead. Suspects abound, including the play’s stars and producers, even the leading man, Richard Attenborough (Harris Dickinson). This crime might be too much for the odd couple of Stoppard and Stalker to handle. Catch *See How They Run* on Hulu.
3. K-19: The Widowmaker (2002)
For some reason, Hulu has inexplicably classified *K-19: The Widowmaker* as a horror film. It’s actually a historical thriller from Oscar-winning director Kathryn Bigelow, inspired by the true story of Russia’s first ballistic missile nuclear submarine, the K-19. Harrison Ford and Liam Neeson, both phenomenal actors, deliver outstanding performances as Russian military officers, even if they don’t seem like the obvious choices at first. In 1961, Commanding Officer Alexei Vostrikov (Ford) takes command of the K-19 from his new executive officer, Mikhail “Misha” Polenin (Neeson). These two strong personalities clash over how to operate the submarine, particularly when Vostrikov takes unnecessary risks. But when a faulty reactor threatens a nuclear meltdown, the crew faces an almost impossible challenge to prevent a catastrophic event. Prepare for suspense and thrills when you watch *K-19: The Widowmaker* on Hulu.
