Three Rare UK Coins That Could Be Worth a Fortune

Have you recently taken a look at your loose change? You might be sitting on a small fortune without even realizing it. Some coins can fetch a hefty sum, soaring to hundreds or even thousands of pounds above their nominal value for the lucky few. A TikTok sensation has revealed three particular coins that could turn up in your spare change and make you a bit richer.

The coin enthusiast @CoinCollectingWizard, with a massive following of 175,600, claims the Kew Gardens 50p coin tops the list of must-haves. He explained that the original 2009 design is highly sought after, with only 210,000 released into circulation and most now in private hands. Finding one in your change is rare, but if you do, it could be worth a remarkable £150.

The next coin mentioned in his video is even more remarkable. The 1983 New Pence Two Pence piece is a collector’s dream due to a unique changeover in its inscription from ‘New Pence’ to ‘Two Pence’. The expert stated that in 1983, the Royal Mint began the process of changing the inscription on the 2p coin, and if you find this rare coin, it could be worth over £1,000.

Finally, there’s a 20p coin from 2008 that’s worth keeping an eye out for. This isn’t any regular 20p as this one doesn’t have a date. Apparently, there was a dye mix-up at the Royal Mint during the transition to the new design and a small number of these coins were accidentally minted with no date. If you’re lucky enough to stumble upon one of these 20p coins, you could be looking at a cool £50, approximately 250 times its face value.

Since the video was posted last week, it received hundreds of likes. Among the comments, one user said: “I like it, thank you!” While another added: “Hello *clapping emoji*.” Do you have any of these coins? Let us know in the comments section below.
