Thunderstorms, Rainfall Forecast for India: Heatwave Conditions Expected in Several States

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather forecast predicting thunderstorms, rainfall, gusty winds, and heatwave conditions in various parts of India over the next few days. Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand will experience light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds until tomorrow, June 9. The northwestern states of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, and Rajasthan will also witness thunderstorms, light rainfall, lightning, and gusty winds today. Northeastern states including Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim can expect widespread light to moderate rainfall for the next seven days. Southern states like Goa, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kerala, Lakshadweep, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry are forecasted to receive light to moderate rainfall till June 12. Assam and Meghalaya are likely to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall on June 10 and 11. Kerala and Mahe may also receive isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall on June 7 and 8. Hailstorms along with squalls are possible in isolated pockets of Rajasthan on June 7 and in West Madhya Pradesh from June 7 to 9. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in isolated places of North Karnataka from June 7 to 10 and in Central Maharashtra from June 7 to 9. Heatwave conditions are likely in isolated pockets of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, and Odisha on June 9. Severe heatwave conditions are also possible in parts of Uttar Pradesh, Jammu, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan. Residents in these areas are advised to take precautions to stay safe during the extreme weather conditions.
