New Collaboration Aims to Reduce Environmental Impact of Laundry, Highlight Benefits of Cold Water

Tide, America’s trusted laundry detergent, and Walmart, America’s largest retailer, have partnered to help consumers make a more sustainable choice in the laundry room by washing in cold water. This multi-month campaign, launched in conjunction with Earth Day, includes in-store product sampling, digital advertising, in-store signage, and social media promotion.

Washing laundry in cold water has numerous benefits, including

extended clothing longevity, money savings, and a reduced environmental impact

. Cold water washing saves up to 90% energy on average, which can result in energy bill savings of up to $150 per year. If Americans successfully convert 75% of laundry loads to cold water by 2030, it could avoid 27 million metric tons of CO2 emissions, equivalent to powering down all of New York City or San Francisco for over a year.

Consumers can now enjoy a powerful clean with Tide in cold water, thanks to its formula upgrade. This collaboration between Tide and Walmart aims to make cold water washing the new standard, joining other organizations advocating for its benefits, such as World Wildlife Fund and HanesBrands.
