Tigers Crush Rays with 7-1 Win, Skubal’s Stellar Performance Keeps Streak Alive

Detroit fireballer Tarik Skubal turned in another dazzling performance, striking out nine over six innings in the Tigers’ 7-1 win over the Tampa Bay Rays on Monday night.

Skubal has now gone 7-0 in his last 10 starts dating back to last season, and the Tigers are 9-1 in those games.

Mark Canha went 3-for-4 with a homer, two runs, and two RBIs, while Parker Meadows also went deep for the Tigers. Javier Baez and Jake Rogers each added two hits.

The Tigers jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first two innings, with Canha hitting a solo homer in the first and Baez driving in Matt Vierling with a single in the second. Rogers reached on an infield single in the second, and Rays shortstop Jose Caballero’s throwing error allowed another run to score.

Detroit added two more runs in the fifth when Baez scored on Caballero’s second throwing error and Canha singled in Rogers. Meadows made it 6-0 with a solo homer in the sixth, and Kerry Carpenter’s RBI double in the seventh gave the Tigers a 7-0 lead.

Caballero hit a solo homer off Shelby Miller in the eighth for the Rays’ only run.

Tampa Bay starter Zack Littell allowed six runs (five earned) on nine hits over six innings. He struck out seven.
