The Minnesota Timberwolves put on a clinic in Game 1 of their first-round playoff series against the Phoenix Suns, dominating from start to finish in a 120-95 victory. Anthony Edwards set the tone for the Timberwolves, scoring 33 points on an efficient 12-of-19 shooting from the field. He also added nine rebounds, six assists, and two steals, showcasing his all-around game.
The Timberwolves’ depth was also on full display, with five players scoring in double figures. D’Angelo Russell added 20 points, while Malik Beasley chipped in 18 points off the bench. Karl-Anthony Towns and Jaden McDaniels both scored 16 points, while Naz Reid added 13 points and 11 rebounds.
The Suns, meanwhile, struggled to keep pace with the Timberwolves’ high-octane offense. Devin Booker, who entered the game averaging 27.1 points per game, was held to just 12 points on 4-of-13 shooting. Deandre Ayton was also quiet, scoring just 10 points on 4-of-11 shooting.
The Timberwolves’ defense was also impressive, holding the Suns to just 38.5% shooting from the field. They also forced 15 turnovers, which led to 20 points for Minnesota.
The Suns will need to make some adjustments if they want to even the series in Game 2. They will need to find a way to slow down Edwards and the Timberwolves’ offense, and they will need to get more production from their supporting cast. Booker and Ayton will need to be more aggressive and efficient, and the Suns will need to find a way to generate more offense from their bench.
Game 2 of the series is scheduled for Tuesday night in Phoenix.
