Timothée Chalamet to Play Pro Ping Pong Player in Safdie Brothers’ ‘Marty Supreme’

Timothée Chalamet, fresh off his potential Oscar-nominated performance as Bob Dylan in ‘A Complete Unknown,’ is already diving into his next project. He will star in ‘Marty Supreme,’ a thrilling new drama directed by the Safdie Brothers, known for their high-octane films like ‘Good Time’ and ‘Uncut Gems.’

The film is inspired by the life of Marty Reisman, a legendary ping pong player who rose to prominence in 1930s Manhattan. Reisman honed his skills on the Lower East Side, playing for bets and prizes before becoming the US men’s singles champion. His autobiography, ‘The Money Player: The Confessions of America’s Greatest Table Tennis Player and Hustler,’ was published in 1974.

While details about the plot remain under wraps, sources confirm ‘Marty Supreme’ will be a fictionalized original story based on Reisman’s life, rather than a traditional biopic. Given the Safdie Brothers’ signature style, expect a fast-paced, unpredictable narrative.

Joining Chalamet in the film is Gwyneth Paltrow, making a return to the big screen after a brief hiatus. Her last appearances were in 2019’s ‘Avengers: Endgame’ and Netflix’s ‘The Politician.’ Her role in ‘Marty Supreme’ has yet to be revealed.

‘Marty Supreme’ is being co-produced by Chalamet and the acclaimed indie film label A24. The film is written by the Safdie Brothers alongside their frequent collaborator Ronald Bronstein. With the Safdie Brothers’ talent for crafting gripping narratives and Chalamet’s undeniable on-screen charisma, ‘Marty Supreme’ is shaping up to be a must-see film.
