The title of superstar Rajinikanth’s upcoming film, ‘Thalaivar 171’, has been revealed as ‘Coolie’.
Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, the film features Rajinikanth in a stylish avatar as he takes on a group of gold smugglers. The over three-minute video released by the makers showcases the superstar effortlessly dealing with the smugglers, leaving fans eagerly anticipating the film’s release.
The video begins with a group of smugglers checking on their gold inventory. As they hear a noise, one of them steps out to investigate. What follows is a thrilling sequence where Rajinikanth appears, swiftly defeating the smugglers. The number ‘171’ is prominently displayed in gold on the wall, hinting at the film’s title.
Apart from the gold items, the rest of the visuals are in black and white. Fans speculate that the film may be a part of Lokesh Cinematic Universe, an interconnected world of action thrillers created by Lokesh Kanagaraj, including ‘Kaithi’, ‘Vikram’, and ‘Leo’. This would mark Rajinikanth’s first collaboration with the director.
The film, produced by Sun Pictures, was announced last year. While rumors suggest that Sivakarthikeyan may play a key role, the rest of the cast and crew are yet to be revealed. Composer Anirudh Ravichander and stunt director duo Anbariv have been roped in for the project.
Before ‘Coolie’, Rajinikanth will be seen in ‘Vettaiyan’, directed by TJ Gnanavel, which is slated to release in October 2023. ‘Vettaiyan’ boasts a stellar cast including Amitabh Bachchan and Fahadh Faasil. ‘Coolie’ is expected to hit theaters sometime in 2025.
