Tom Blyth to Star in ‘Watch Dogs’ Movie Adaptation
Following his critically acclaimed performance as Coriolanus Snow in Lionsgate Films’ ‘The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes,’ rising star Tom Blyth has been cast in the highly anticipated movie adaptation of the beloved Ubisoft video game series, ‘Watch Dogs.’ The film is a collaboration between New Regency and Ubisoft Film & Television.
Blyth will take on a leading role opposite Sophie Wilde, the Australian actress who recently headlined A24’s ‘Talk to Me.’ The film will be directed by Mathieu Turi, known for his haunting thrillers ‘The Deep Dark’ and ‘Meander.’ The screenplay is based on an original draft by Christie LeBlanc, with revisions by Victoria Bata.
‘Watch Dogs’ stems from New Regency and will be produced by its Chairman and CEO Yariv Milchan and Natalie Lehmann, President of Motion Pictures and Television. Margaret Boykin, Head of Content at Ubisoft Film & Television, will also contribute as a producer.
Released in 2014, the original ‘Watch Dogs’ video game captivated players with its action-adventure gameplay set in a near-future where technology pervades every aspect of society. The game revolves around Aiden Pearce, a former criminal turned hacker seeking vengeance after a devastating personal tragedy. Players engage in thrilling hacking mechanics to manipulate the city’s infrastructure.
The immense popularity of ‘Watch Dogs’ spawned two sequels, ‘Watch Dogs 2’ (2016) and ‘Watch Dogs: Legion’ (2020). Both games introduced new playable characters and explored different urban environments, including a fictionalized San Francisco Bay Area and a dystopian London.
In addition to ‘The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes,’ Blyth currently stars in the titular role of MGM+’s Western series ‘Billy the Kid.’ Wilde is set to appear in Halina Reijn’s erotic thriller ‘Babygirl,’ which is scheduled for release later this year.
The ‘Watch Dogs’ movie adaptation is eagerly awaited by fans of the video game franchise and those who appreciate high-octane action and technology-driven narratives. With its talented cast and crew, the film promises an immersive cinematic experience that will captivate audiences worldwide.
