Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft – Animated Series Coming to Netflix

Prepare for a new adventure with Lara Croft! Netflix has unveiled a teaser for the upcoming animated series, ‘Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft,’ featuring Hayley Atwell as the voice of the legendary adventurer. This exciting series serves as a sequel to the popular ‘Survivor Trilogy’ of video games, which includes 2013’s ‘Tomb Raider,’ 2015’s ‘Rise of the Tomb Raider,’ and 2018’s ‘Shadow of the Tomb Raider.’ These games marked a reboot of the Tomb Raider franchise, introducing a fresh take on the beloved character.

Set after the events of ‘Shadow of the Tomb Raider,’ the series follows Lara Croft as she embarks on thrilling solo missions, having chosen to venture alone after parting ways with her companions. However, her solitude is interrupted when a valuable and dangerous Chinese artifact is stolen from Croft Manor by a thief with a mysterious connection to Lara’s past. This theft sets Lara on a daring pursuit that will take her across the globe and into the depths of forgotten tombs. As she faces perilous challenges and unravels ancient secrets, she will confront her deepest self and grapple with the hero she wants to become.

Joining Hayley Atwell in the voice cast are Allen Maldonado as Zip and Earl Baylon as Jonah. Baylon reprises his role from the Tomb Raider video games, adding a familiar voice to the animated series.

‘Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft’ is written and executive produced by Tasha Huo (known for her work on ‘The Witcher: Blood Origin’). The series boasts a talented team of executive producers, including Dmitri M. Johnson, Timothy I. Stevenson, Jacob Robinson, Dallas Dickinson, Noah Hughes, Howard Bliss, Jen Chambers, and Brad Graeber. It’s a collaborative effort between Legendary Television, dj2 Entertainment, Tractor Pants, Crystal Dynamics, and Powerhouse Animation.

The Tomb Raider video game franchise has captivated players worldwide since its debut in 1996, with over 95 million copies sold. The series’ popularity has extended beyond the gaming world, inspiring a series of films, beginning with 2001’s ‘Lara Croft: Tomb Raider’ and 2003’s ‘Lara Croft: Tomb Raider – The Cradle of Life,’ starring Angelina Jolie as the iconic explorer. In 2018, Alicia Vikander took on the role of Lara Croft in a reboot of the franchise. Meanwhile, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, known for her work on ‘Fleabag,’ is currently developing another Tomb Raider project for Amazon Studios.
