Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina embarked on a two-day state visit to India on Friday, aiming to further strengthen the already close ties between the two nations. Today, she is scheduled to engage in talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with both sides anticipated to finalize a series of agreements to enhance cooperation in various sectors. The talks are expected to focus on elevating the bilateral relationship to new heights. Additionally, Prime Minister Hasina is scheduled to meet with President Droupadi Murmu and Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar.
Curfew Relaxed in Balasore, Mobile Internet Remains Suspended
Following an improvement in the situation, the curfew in Balasore, Odisha, has been relaxed. However, mobile internet services will remain suspended. The curfew is set to be relaxed from 5 am to 2 pm today, allowing for the operation of commercial establishments and routine services. While WiFi internet services will be restored on Saturday, mobile internet services will continue to be restricted.
MCC in J&K Likely Today
Reports suggest that the Election Commission will implement the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) starting from June 22. This move is seen as a prelude to the upcoming Assembly elections in the state. Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently announced that these elections would be held soon, with plans underway to restore statehood to the union territory in the near future. The last elections in Jammu and Kashmir were held in November 2014.
BJP to Hold State-Wide Protests Against Illicit Liquor Case
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has planned state-wide protests in Tamil Nadu to denounce the illicit liquor case that has resulted in the tragic deaths of 48 people. The death toll from the hooch tragedy in Kallakurichi, Tamil Nadu, has reached 48, as announced by the state Health Minister Ma Subramanian on Friday. Among the deceased are 3 women and a transgender. Three individuals, Govindaraj, Damadoran, and Vijaya, have been charged in connection with the incident and placed in judicial custody for 15 days until July 5. A judicial inquiry is ongoing into the Kallakurichi spurious liquor case.
