The Election Commission of India announced the complete schedule for the upcoming assembly elections in Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir on August 16th. Haryana’s single-phase election is scheduled for October 1st, while Jammu and Kashmir will hold elections in three phases: September 18th, September 25th, and October 1st. The results for both elections are expected to be declared on October 4th, as announced by Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar.
Updates on Kolkata Doctor Rape Case
Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra addressed the Kolkata doctor rape and murder case through a video message, debunking four pieces of ‘fake news’ circulating about the incident. Additionally, a junior doctor from the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital presented the demands of the protesting doctors. These demands included the arrest of the culprits with concrete evidence and an official press release confirming their arrest by the CBI. The doctors also demanded a written apology and the resignation of higher RG Kar authorities. The doctor emphasized that while no compensation can replace a lost life, they requested lifelong support and adequate financial compensation for the victim’s parents.
Mpox Situation in India
The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has been conducting a serosurvey since last year to assess the exposure to mpox among India’s high-risk population. This initiative comes after the World Health Organization (WHO) declared mpox a global public health emergency on Wednesday. The ICMR has also established a sentinel surveillance program at the Virus Research and Diagnostic Laboratory to detect any potential cases of mpox. The serosurvey, which involves testing blood samples for antibodies, has not yielded significant positive cases, indicating limited evidence of past infections.
