Tottenham Hotspur is contemplating a significant squad overhaul during the summer of 2023, which may include the departure of Bryan Gil. The Premier League giants have endured a string of departures, including Eric Dier and Ivan Perisic, prompting the club to enter the next phase of its long-awaited squad revamp. Gil, among others, could be made available for transfer. The silky Spaniard, who joined Tottenham in 2021 from Sevilla, has struggled for playing time under manager Ange Postecoglou, managing fewer than 200 minutes of league football. His situation is unlikely to improve, especially with Tottenham seeking to extend Timo Werner’s loan stay from RB Leipzig. Despite claims that Gil is part of the club’s long-term plans, Tottenham remains keen on £25 million-rated Club Brugge starlet Antonio Nusa. As a result, Spurs may be open to offers for Gil, although it remains unclear if Feyenoord can afford the fee required for a player who cost the club £21 million and still has two years remaining on his contract. Feyenoord’s technical director acknowledges the club’s interest in Gil, stating that they are exploring their options. He emphasizes that Feyenoord offers a platform for players to continue their development or prove their worth. Gil is recognized as a talented player, but numerous other clubs are interested in him. Gil’s potential departure could pave the way for Feyenoord to secure a replacement for Newcastle United loanee Cole Bassett, who is set to return to his parent club this summer. Postecoglou has previously stated that it is not his role to push players out and that any decision regarding Gil’s future will be the player’s own. He maintains that Gil is a fantastic young player who is eager to improve and is valued as part of the group. Despite his lack of playing time, Postecoglou believes that Gil has plenty of time to develop and is content to have him around for the remainder of the season.
