Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has made a move to Ligue 1, joining Olympique de Marseille on loan with an option to buy. The transfer was announced by both clubs on Monday. While financial details remain undisclosed, British media reports suggest that Marseille has agreed to pay approximately £16 million ($21 million) for the 28-year-old Danish international. This fee would be triggered if they decide to make the move permanent. Hojbjerg, who has a year remaining on his contract with Spurs, has enjoyed a successful spell in North London, making 184 appearances and scoring 10 goals for the club. He joined Spurs in 2020 after a four-year stint at Southampton, having previously featured for Bayern Munich. However, his playing time at Tottenham was reduced last season, with the likes of Pape Matar Sarr, Yves Bissouma, and Rodrigo Bentancur preferred in midfield. This loan move represents a fresh start for Hojbjerg, who will be eager to rediscover his best form in a new environment. Marseille, under their new head coach Roberto De Zerbi (formerly of Brighton & Hove Albion), begin their Ligue 1 campaign against Brest on August 18. The French club has also secured the services of former Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood, adding further firepower to their attacking options.
