Toyota Wins Imola 6 Hours Despite Lacking Pure Pace

Technical director at Toyota Gazoo Racing Europe, David Floury, pointed out that the Imola 6 Hours victory was not a display of superior speed but a result of strategic decision-making. Despite Ferrari’s faster pace, Toyota’s tactical execution and Kamui Kobayashi’s exceptional driving in the final two hours secured their win.

Toyota, facing a pace deficit to Ferrari’s 499P LMH, expressed dissatisfaction and believes the BoP regulations require further adjustments. Floury highlighted the discrepancies in straight-line speed between the cars and hinted at Ferrari’s dominance in that aspect.

To level the playing field in the Hypercar class, a new ‘power gain’ component is planned for the BoP system, aiming to match the cars’ performance on straights. However, the FIA and Automobile Club de l’Ouest have yet to announce its implementation date.
