Thane, India – A truck accident on Ghodbunder Road in Thane on Wednesday morning resulted in a massive traffic disruption lasting for nearly 11 hours, impacting thousands of commuters travelling between Thane and Mumbai. This is the second such incident in as many days, highlighting the growing concern over traffic disruptions on this crucial highway.
The incident occurred around 3am when a truck carrying 35 tonnes of paraformaldehyde, a chemical used in various industries, crashed into the divider and toppled on the slip road leading to the Patlipada flyover. The truck was headed towards Haryana on the Ahmedabad-bound lane. The driver, 50-year-old Mohd Ruzdar, sustained injuries and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital.
The accident caused significant traffic congestion as motorists, frustrated by the delays, resorted to jumping lanes, further complicating the situation. The stretch was cleared for traffic only by 2pm on Wednesday, according to officials.
This incident comes just 24 hours after two separate accidents involving heavy vehicles on the same stretch, which had resulted in similar traffic disruptions for over 11 hours the previous day. These repeated incidents highlight the need for improved safety measures on Ghodbunder Road to prevent such accidents and ensure smooth traffic flow.
The impact of the accident was felt by thousands of commuters, including students travelling to and from school. The incident once again brought to light the vulnerability of the city’s transportation infrastructure and the need for comprehensive solutions to address traffic congestion and ensure the safety of road users. Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident to prevent future occurrences.
