A tragic incident occurred near Bhushi Dam in Lonavala, Pune, where a family outing turned into a nightmare. Three members of the family, including two minors, drowned after being swept away by the strong currents of a waterfall. The victims have been identified as Shahista Ansari (36), Amima Ansari (13), and Umera Ansari (8). Their bodies were recovered after a search and rescue operation. However, two other children from the same family, Adnan Ansari (4) and Maria Sayyad (9), remain missing.
The family, hailing from Sayyad Nagar, Pune City, had gone to the waterfall on June 30th around 12:30 pm. According to Superintendent of Pune Rural Police, Pankaj Deshmukh, the family was enjoying their day out when tragedy struck. Some members got too close to the waterfall and were pulled away by the powerful currents.
The Lonavala Police and emergency services have launched a rescue operation, involving divers and rescue teams. The search for the missing children continues on Monday. This incident underscores the dangers posed by natural attractions like waterfalls, especially during the monsoon season. Authorities are urging caution and awareness among visitors to such areas to prevent further tragedies.
