A devastating fire swept through Baby Care New Born Hospital in Vivek Vihar, East Delhi, on Saturday night, leaving a heart-wrenching toll of seven newborn infants dead. The blaze erupted at around 11:30 PM, causing extensive damage to the hospital and its adjacent building.
Twelve newborns were rescued from the burning structure, but tragically, seven of them succumbed to their injuries. Five other infants are currently undergoing treatment at another hospital.
According to Delhi Fire Services (DFS) chief Atul Garg, the fire broke out on the upper floors of the hospital, engulfing the facility in flames. With the assistance of local residents and emergency responders, the infants were evacuated from the burning building and rushed to a nearby hospital. However, six babies were declared brought dead upon arrival, while one succumbed to their injuries during treatment.
The bodies of the deceased infants have been transferred to GTB Hospital for postmortem examination. Police have initiated legal proceedings against the hospital’s owner, Naveen Kichi, and are thoroughly investigating the cause of the fire.
This tragic incident has sent shockwaves throughout the community, raising concerns about the safety and well-being of infants in hospital care. The authorities have vowed to conduct a comprehensive investigation and take appropriate actions to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
