On Tuesday, a catastrophic event unfolded in Malaysia when two military helicopters participating in a training exercise collided and crashed, resulting in the heartbreaking loss of all 10 individuals on board. The navy’s official statement confirmed that the helicopters were part of preparations for the upcoming 90th anniversary celebration of the naval force at a base in Perak state.
Seven crew members were on the AW139 maritime operation helicopter, a model produced by AgustaWestland, a subsidiary of Leonardo. Meanwhile, the second helicopter involved was a Fennec lightweight aircraft, manufactured by Airbus, carrying three crew members.
Local media reports indicate that the AW139 helicopter crashed into a sports complex within the naval base, while the Fennec struck a nearby swimming pool.
The navy has expressed its deep sorrow over the loss of these brave souls and has initiated a thorough investigation to determine the cause of the tragic accident.
