However, he also spent a year away from basketball entirely, moving to Amsterdam without knowing a single word of English. He supported his studies by working in a restaurant, starting as a dishwasher before quickly moving up to server and eventually being promoted to manager. This experience taught him that he could achieve anything he set his mind to. In the United States, worked at ‘Impact Basketball’ in Oklahoma and Las Vegas alongside NBA players. It was here that he was discovered by Steve Kerr, who became his mentor in the U.S. and later brought him to the Golden State Warriors. In Cleveland, he gained invaluable experience under several coaches, including Tyronn Lue, and alongside top talents like LeBron James. He developed players for the Cavaliers and served as an assistant for the Santa Cruz Warriors in the G League, eventually leading the team as head coach. He was an assistant with the Brooklyn Nets in 2016 and was recruited by the Sacramento Kings in 2022, where he rejoined Mike Brown. has led the Nets as they aim to rebuild after finishing eleventh in the Eastern Conference with a 32-50 record.
