Get ready for a massive clash of titans as Paramount Pictures is developing a crossover event film featuring the beloved Transformers and G.I. Joe franchises. This exciting news was revealed by producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura during a recent interview promoting the upcoming animated film, *Transformers One*.
Di Bonaventura acknowledged the significant challenge of balancing the sheer number of characters in both franchises. He highlighted that the success of this film hinges on effectively managing and showcasing the diverse cast.
“It is going to be complicated because now the hardest thing about a lot of franchise movies is how many characters there are, and the more characters you try to manage, the harder it is to make a bunch of really good ones,” di Bonaventura said. “We’ll be in that process for a while where we’ll start with a bunch of Joes and a bunch of Transformers and I’ll say, regular humans, and then you’re going to do this. That’s kind of where we are right now, is trying to put the larger thing in place. The trick in this one, like we were talking about here, in trying to find that tone and balance is like, ‘Well, how much of the Joes do you want? And how much of the Transformers do you want?”
The seeds of this crossover were planted in the 2023 Transformers film, *Rise of the Beasts*, where Noah Diaz, played by Anthony Ramos, was invited to join the G.I. Joe organization by Agent Burke, portrayed by Michael Kelly. Paramount officially confirmed the untitled Transformers x G.I. Joe film at CinemaCon 2024, with Jurassic World writer Derek Connolly taking on scripting duties.
While no director has been attached to the project yet, a star-studded production team is already in place. Di Bonaventura, Mark Vahradian, Michael Bay, Tom DeSanto, and Don Murphy are set to produce, with Steven Spielberg and Hasbro Entertainment serving as executive producers.
Adding fuel to the excitement, Deadline reported in May that Chris Hemsworth is in talks to lead the film. Hemsworth currently voices Optimus Prime in *Transformers One*, which is set to hit theaters on September 20, 2024.
With no official release date announced yet, fans are eagerly awaiting further details on this epic collaboration. The Transformers x G.I. Joe crossover film promises an unforgettable cinematic experience, bringing together two iconic action franchises for a battle for the ages.
