Travis d’Arnaud’s Homer, Bryce Elder’s Return Lead Braves Past Marlins 3-0

Atlanta Braves catcher Travis d’Arnaud continued his impressive power display with his fifth home run in his last three starts. D’Arnaud’s two-run blast in the fourth inning opened the scoring against the Miami Marlins on Monday, helping the Braves secure a 3-0 victory.

Bryce Elder, who was recalled from Triple-A Gwinnett for his first major league appearance of the season, put in a strong showing on the mound for Atlanta. The 23-year-old right-hander pitched 6 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing only eight hits and striking out four batters.

The Braves’ bullpen also stepped up, with A.J. Minter setting an Atlanta record with his 108th hold and Raisel Iglesias notching his seventh save of the season.

Ronald Acuna Jr. played a key role on offense for the Braves, stealing second base in the first inning to set an Atlanta-era franchise record with his 190th career stolen base. Adam Duvall and David Fletcher added RBIs for Atlanta, which has now won seven of its last eight games and improved to 3-1 against the Marlins this season.

Marlins starter Ryan Weathers took the loss, giving up three runs on six hits and three walks in 5 2/3 innings. A baserunning blunder by Luis Arraez in the first inning cost the Marlins a potential run. Arraez failed to score from second base on a double and was thrown out at the plate by Braves center fielder Michael Harris II.
