Trinidad and Tobago’s Narendra Ramgulam Appointed as CTO’s Sustainable Tourism Consultant

The Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) has announced the appointment of Trinidad and Tobago’s Narendra Ramgulam as its new Sustainable Tourism Consultant. With a deep understanding of sustainable tourism practices, Ramgulam is poised to lead initiatives that promote eco-friendly practices across the Caribbean region.

The CTO, the leading regional tourism authority, is dedicated to fostering tourism that not only generates economic benefits but also benefits the social and cultural fabric of Caribbean communities. Ramgulam’s appointment reflects the CTO’s ongoing commitment to building a resilient and sustainable tourism industry.

Ramgulam’s extensive experience in the field makes him a perfect fit for this crucial role. His previous role as Director of Tourism Product Development & Destination Management at the Tobago Tourism Agency Limited earned him recognition for his dedication to sustainability and his successful efforts to enhance safety protocols during the COVID-19 pandemic. His academic contributions as a Postgraduate Coordinator and Lecturer at the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine Campus, further highlight his commitment to promoting responsible tourism practices.

Ramgulam takes over from Amanda Charles, who spearheaded the CTO’s sustainability initiatives for eight years, organizing and participating in international and regional conferences and sustainable tourism initiatives. Dona Regis-Prosper, CTO Secretary-General & CEO, expressed gratitude for Charles’ contributions, acknowledging her invaluable role in advancing sustainable development in the region.

Regis-Prosper expressed confidence in Ramgulam’s ability to further the CTO’s sustainability agenda, stating, “With Narendra’s proven track record and extensive knowledge, we are confident that he will significantly contribute to advancing sustainable tourism practices across the Caribbean. We are excited that we can leverage his expertise and guide our member countries towards a more sustainable and resilient tourism sector.”

Ramgulam’s impressive academic credentials include 13 contributions to peer-reviewed journals and book chapters, demonstrating his deep understanding of sustainable tourism principles. He is a frequent speaker at tourism conferences, where he shares his insights on topics such as sustainable tourism, tourism anthropology, product development, and strategies for economic diversification. His appointment signifies the CTO’s unwavering commitment to responsible and sustainable tourism development in the Caribbean.
