Trip.com Group Emphasizes Sustainability in Fifth Annual ESG Report

Trip.com Group, a global leader in travel services, has released its fifth annual Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) report, showcasing its commitment to sustainable practices within the travel industry. The report outlines the company’s significant strides in creating a positive long-term impact, structured around a comprehensive four-pillar ESG framework that focuses on community, family, environment, and stakeholders. This marks Trip.com Group’s continued dedication to aligning its initiatives with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs).

One of Trip.com Group’s key focuses is uplifting communities. The company collaborates with local communities and organizations to enhance employment opportunities, support public welfare, empower tourism professionals, and drive sustainable economic growth. This dedication to community investment is evident in China, where Trip.com Group engages with nearly 100% of local suppliers for its Trip.com Country Retreat, creating over 20,000 indirect jobs. This ensures that economic benefits are reinvested in the local community, supporting social and economic development. Additionally, the Group’s global travel SOS service, guaranteeing traveler safety, has expanded its coverage to over 440 million passengers worldwide, managing over 20,000 requests with a remarkable 98% resolution success rate.

Trip.com Group is also dedicated to creating a family-friendly work environment. The company prioritizes family-friendly policies and initiatives, including creating a diverse and inclusive workspace that offers equitable opportunities for all employees, with a particular focus on empowering women. The company has implemented a hybrid work model across 117 offices in 39 countries, saving an estimated 900,000 hours of commuting time and benefiting 60% of families with children. This initiative reflects the Group’s commitment to minimizing the challenges faced by employees in balancing professional and family life. Gender diversity, equity, and inclusivity are core to Trip.com Group’s values, as evidenced by its workforce statistics: women represent 57.5% of the workforce, 61.4% of entry-level roles, 43.5% of middle management, and 32.5% of senior roles. Notably, over 60% of recently promoted senior managers were women with children. The company has also extended its childcare subsidy to 541 employees, with nearly all female employees returning to work post-maternity leave.

Recognizing the intrinsic connection between nature and the travel experience, Trip.com Group has committed to reducing its carbon footprint by promoting lower-emission travel options. The company has set an ambitious goal to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, joining the Science Based Target initiative (SBTi) and aiming to introduce over 10,000 lower-carbon travel products, encouraging 100 million travelers to adopt more sustainable practices. By 2023, the company has made significant progress, offering consumers a range of lower-carbon travel options, including flights with reduced emissions and electric cars. The carbon data now covers 96% of flights, 56% of rental car services, and 98% of transportation services for business travel products. Over 72 million travelers have benefited from access to these lower-emission alternatives. In recognition of its efforts, Trip.com Group’s corporate travel division, Trip.Biz, secured the EcoVadis Sustainability Silver rating, placing it among the top 15% of companies globally. Trip.Biz has also introduced carbon management products, enabling corporate clients to allocate carbon budget quotas across departments, further promoting sustainable business travel.

Trip.com Group prioritizes transparent corporate governance and robust stakeholder engagement. The company emphasizes customer privacy, information security, and promoting sustainable practices across its supply chain. In the past year, Trip.com Group established an ESG risk management committee to ensure company-wide adherence to these principles. Additionally, all employees completed comprehensive security and privacy training, averaging nearly 39 hours per person. The Group’s ESG strategy continues to drive key actions that add value to the travel industry and support the creation of a sustainable future. Trip.com Group CEO, Jane Sun, reiterated the company’s commitment to these goals, stating, “Our ESG strategy prioritizes the environment, communities, families, and stakeholders, with a firm commitment to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.
