In a significant step towards boosting economic growth and development, the Tripura Institution for Transformation (TIFT) and the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Calcutta have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the eve of India’s 78th Independence Day. This collaboration aims to facilitate knowledge exchange, capacity building, research initiatives, and the implementation of innovative strategies to drive industrialization and enhance skill development in the state of Tripura.
The MoU was signed by Kiran Gitte, CEO of TIFT and Secretary, Good Governance of Tripura, and Prof Rajeshbabu, Dean of IIM Calcutta. The partnership seeks to align with the directives of the NITI Aayog under its State Support Mission, focusing on strategic initiatives aimed at propelling industrialization and enhancing skill development in Tripura.
Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha, holding the charge of Good Governance, hailed the move as a pivotal moment in Tripura’s progress journey, stating, “It’s a significant step towards development and the government’s unwavering commitment to fostering growth and prosperity.”
A delegation from IIM Calcutta engaged in detailed discussions with Chief Secretary Jitendra Kumar Sinha to explore collaborative opportunities and synergies. These discussions included a strategic partnership initiative aligned with the directives of NITI Aayog under its State Support Mission. The partnership intends to leverage the collective expertise and resources of both institutions to drive impactful interventions in sectors crucial for the state’s development, ultimately paving the way for sustainable economic advancement and empowering the local workforce.
Gitte emphasized the significance of this collaboration, highlighting, “Through joint efforts in skill development programs, research projects, and policy formulation, the strategic alliance is poised to catalyze positive change and usher in a new era of prosperity for Tripura by realizing long-term goals envisaged in the vision Viksit Bharat @ 2047.”
To achieve these objectives, TIFT has actively engaged with national institutions of eminence, including IIM, NIPER, NIT, and ISI Kolkata, initiating discussions and deliberations on specific areas such as industrialization, skill development, monitoring & evaluation frameworks, and identification of emerging technologies.
IIM Calcutta, through its Center for Development & Environment Policy (CDEP), became the first institute to formally tie up with TIFT, providing consultancy services for critical policy interventions aimed at bringing about transformative changes in Tripura. The IIMC will also collaborate with TIFT on research programs and capacity-building initiatives conceptualized jointly.
The initial tenure of this engagement will be for three years, with the possibility of extension with mutual consent, Gitte added. This partnership between TIFT and IIM Calcutta represents a significant step towards achieving sustainable economic growth and development in Tripura, leveraging the expertise of both institutions to drive impactful interventions and empower the local workforce.
