Batting leadoff for the first time since 2020, Trout wasted no time making an impact, connecting on a fastball from Baltimore’s Grayson Rodriguez and sending it over the auxiliary scoreboard above the wall in right-center field. The home run, Trout’s first leadoff homer since September 28, 2012, gave the Angels an early 1-0 lead.
The Angels continued to pour it on, with Luis Rengifo, Logan O’Hoppe, and Zach Neto contributing RBI doubles in the second, third, and fourth innings, respectively. Jo Adell and Nolan Schanuel also added run-scoring singles as the Halos built a commanding 7-0 lead after four innings.
Meanwhile, Canning settled into a groove on the mound, allowing just two hits through the first four innings. He finished his outing with three runs allowed on five hits in five innings, striking out four batters and earning his first win in 11 starts dating back to last season.
The Orioles finally got on the board in the fifth inning with three runs, but they were unable to mount a sustained rally against the Angels’ bullpen. Carlos Estévez retired the side in the ninth inning to pick up his fourth save in five opportunities, securing the 7-4 victory for Los Angeles.
In other news, Angels right-handed pitcher Robert Stephenson announced that he will undergo Tommy John surgery on his right elbow on April 30th. The rehab period for the surgery is expected to be 12-18 months.
The Angels and Orioles will wrap up their season series on Wednesday afternoon. Dean Kremer will take the mound for Baltimore, while Tyler Anderson will start for the Angels.
