Mike Trout ignited the Angels’ offense with a leadoff home run in the first inning, leading them to a 7-4 victory over the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday night at Angel Stadium, snapping a five-game losing streak. It was Trout’s first leadoff homer since September 28, 2012, and it set the tone for a productive night for the Angels.
Zach Neto provided additional offensive support, driving in two runs with a pair of hits. The Angels’ six through nine hitters combined for eight of the team’s 11 hits and five RBIs. Griffin Canning, who had struggled in his first four starts, turned in a solid five-inning outing, allowing three runs on five hits. It was his first win in 11 starts dating back to last season.
The Orioles managed to get on the board in the fifth inning with a sacrifice fly from Gunnar Henderson and a two-run double from Ryan O’Hearn. Henderson also launched a towering 414-foot home run in the seventh inning. Adley Rutschman contributed three hits for the Orioles.
Carlos Estévez retired the side in the ninth inning to secure his fourth save in five opportunities. The teams will wrap up their season series on Wednesday afternoon, with Dean Kremer taking the mound for the Orioles and Tyler Anderson starting for the Angels.
