Former President Donald Trump has blamed President Joe Biden for legislation that could potentially ban TikTok in the U.S. The bill, which cleared the House last weekend as part of a larger foreign aid package, would require TikTok’s Chinese parent company ByteDance to sell the app within roughly a year or face a U.S. ban.
Trump, who previously issued an executive order seeking to force ByteDance to sell its U.S. assets, has come out against the potential ban, claiming it would benefit Facebook. He accused Biden of pushing the measure “to help his friends over at Facebook become richer and more dominant.”
Trump also suggested that the ban is a form of “ELECTION INTERFERENCE,” urging young voters to remember Biden’s role in the potential ban on November 5th, Election Day.
Facebook banned Trump in January 2021 following the Capitol riots, but reinstated his account last year. Trump has met with Jeffrey Yass, a major investor in TikTok and a GOP donor, before announcing his opposition to the ban, but said the meeting had nothing to do with his decision.
