Former President Donald Trump reignited a playful rivalry with President Joe Biden, issuing a challenge for an 18-hole golf match during a rally in Doral, Florida. Trump’s offer, made at his Doral course, included a $1 million donation to a charity of Biden’s choice if Trump were to lose.
He positioned the match as a major sporting event, predicting it would surpass the viewership of prestigious tournaments like the Ryder Cup or Masters. Trump even offered Biden a 10-stroke handicap, emphasizing the generous terms of his proposal.
The Biden campaign, however, dismissed the challenge as a publicity stunt. Spokesperson James Singer stated, “Joe Biden doesn’t have time for Donald Trump’s weird antics – he’s busy leading America and defending the free world.”
The challenge comes amidst ongoing public discussion about the presidents’ golfing abilities. Biden previously expressed willingness to play, even offering Trump a three-stroke handicap. The possibility of a match was highlighted during a presidential debate in June, where Trump boasted about his golfing achievements and questioned Biden’s skills.
The challenge reignited the debate, with even professional golfer Bryson DeChambeau offering to host a match between the two on his YouTube channel.
