Trump Focuses on 2024 Election After Guilty Verdict, Pumps Up Supporters

Former President Trump, who was recently found guilty on 34 felony counts in a New York City criminal trial, attended a campaign fundraiser just hours after the verdict was announced. He has since shifted his focus to the 2024 presidential election, in which he aims to rematch with President Biden.

Trump expressed excitement about returning to the campaign trail and stated that he and his team are “already back to the mission.” The Trump campaign has launched fundraising appeals, emphasizing that they will not let the “sham” trial hinder their efforts to “save the nation.”

Minutes after the verdict, Trump’s team sent out emails to supporters, urging them to donate and claiming that the trial was a politically motivated witch hunt. The GOP online fundraising platform WinRed briefly shut down due to high traffic from Trump supporters attempting to donate. Trump’s campaign website also directed donors to another fundraising platform, Anedot.

The Biden campaign has also sent out fundraising appeals in the wake of the verdict, highlighting the importance of keeping Trump out of office at the ballot box. Despite the guilty verdict, Trump remains determined to close the fundraising gap with Biden, as he and the Republican National Committee had previously outraised the Biden campaign and the Democratic National Committee in April. However, the Biden campaign still holds a significant cash-on-hand advantage.
