Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee joined ‘Fox & Friends Weekend’ to discuss the upcoming presidential debate between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump and its potential impact on the election. The conversation comes amidst a new poll from the New York Times/Siena, which reveals that while a wave of enthusiasm for Democrats has followed Vice President Kamala Harris’s entry into the race, former President Donald Trump remains in the lead.
The poll, conducted between September 3rd and 6th, surveyed 1,695 registered voters and has a margin of error of plus or minus 2.8 percentage points. It found that Trump garnered the support of 48% of likely voters, while Harris received support from 47%. These numbers are nearly identical to the results of a previous New York Times/Siena poll conducted in late July, which also showed Trump with a narrow lead.
While Harris has made gains among certain demographic groups crucial to the Democratic coalition, she is still falling short of traditional Democratic strength among groups like women and Latino voters. Additionally, voters’ preference for change is a factor working against Harris. The poll found that 60% of respondents desire a significant shift from the policies of the previous administration. Only 25% of respondents believe Harris would represent that change, while 53% believe Trump would.
Despite these challenges, the poll also offers some positive news for Harris. She may hold a critical enthusiasm advantage over Trump as the November election approaches. The poll found that 91% of Democrats were enthusiastic about voting, while 85% of Republicans indicated the same.
Overall, the poll highlights the tight race for the presidency and the importance of voter enthusiasm in determining the outcome. While Trump maintains a lead, Harris has energized the Democratic base, and the election is likely to be a close contest.
