The historic criminal trial against former President Donald Trump commenced this week in New York after an extensive jury selection process spanning four days. Judge Juan Merchan has indicated that opening statements are scheduled to begin on Monday in the hush money trial.
Last week, a jury of 12 members and six alternates was sworn in. Both sides will present their opening statements before prosecutors commence their case against Trump.
The prosecution aims to demonstrate that the former president intentionally falsified business records with the intent to defraud and commit or perpetuate other crimes.
Court proceedings will commence midmorning each day and adjourn at 2 p.m. to observe the Passover holiday. Stay tuned for live updates throughout the trial.
