Fox News anchor Jesse Watters has suggested that former President Donald Trump, who is currently on trial in Manhattan for allegedly falsifying business records to silence alleged sexual affairs ahead of the 2016 election, would benefit from exercise and fresh air.
Watters criticized the court’s requirement that Trump, who is almost 80 years old, remain in the courtroom for extended periods, calling it “cruel and unusual punishment.” He argued that Trump “needs sunlight,” “activity,” and “action.”
However, some social media users and experts have questioned Watters’ suggestion, highlighting the seriousness of the allegations against Trump and the importance of ensuring fair trials for all defendants, regardless of their age or status.
“He’s not above the law so deal with it Jesse,” one Twitter user wrote.
Another user questioned Trump’s fitness to hold office if he is unable to keep his eyes open during his trial.
“Trump’s too old to sit in a courtroom,” the user wrote. “Then he’s too old to be POTUS.”
Legal analyst Lisa Rubin argued that the reading of the “Access Hollywood” tape in court was “damning” for Trump, despite the fact that the video itself was not allowed. She said that hearing the words read aloud in a calm and polite manner made them even more impactful.
Meanwhile, trial expert J. Lee Meihls warned that there is a risk of further jury complications in Trump’s case, as jurors could face pressure or fear for their safety. She noted that several jurors have already been excused during the selection process, and that the identities of the remaining jurors could be exposed.
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) criticized Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) for releasing tapes from the January 6, 2021 riot, which she believes will show the incident was a protest rather than a riot. She called on Johnson to resign and demanded an end to the “political prosecutions” of those charged in connection with the Capitol attack.
