The political battle between former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris has taken a new turn, with Trump alleging that CBS edited a “60 Minutes” interview with Harris to present her in a favorable light.
During a conversation with podcast host Dan Bongino, Trump claimed that CBS aired a shortened version of Harris’s interview with journalist Bill Whitaker, manipulating the conversation to portray her positively. He demanded the release of the uncut tapes, stating, “I think I’m going to sue them actually. I think so. No, you know what, they can’t defend it, and if they do, and even if they win, it’s going to be very embarrassing.”
CBS initially aired a truncated version of Harris’s answer to a question about the Gaza war but later posted the full transcript of her comments online, according to The Hill. This isn’t the first time Trump has voiced his grievances on social media. Earlier this month, he took to Truth Social and called for the release of the tapes.
This controversy comes on the heels of Trump’s decision to withdraw from a planned “60 Minutes” interview earlier this month. Despite Trump’s withdrawal, CBS News confirmed that the election special would proceed as planned, featuring the interview with Harris. The network also reiterated its standing invitation to Trump for an interview.
The back-and-forth between Trump and CBS has added another layer to the already heated political climate. Both Trump and Harris are actively campaigning for the 2024 presidential election. Harris has ramped up her own criticism of Trump’s physical and mental health, suggesting he appears fatigued on the campaign trail. She has also urged Trump to make his medical records public.
The upcoming election is anticipated to be a tight race, with polls showing close competition between Trump and Harris. Betting prediction markets have also seen significant swings on the leading candidate.
This ongoing feud adds another chapter to the complex relationship between politicians and the media, highlighting the power dynamics and potential for conflict when political figures feel misrepresented. It remains to be seen if Trump will actually pursue legal action against CBS.
