Trump to Hold News Conference, Challenges Harris to Debate

Former President Donald Trump has announced he will hold a news conference at his Florida estate, Mar-a-Lago, on Thursday. This will be his first public appearance since Vice President Kamala Harris became the Democratic presidential nominee and chose Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as her running mate. Trump, who made the announcement on his social media platform Truth Social, has expressed his eagerness to debate Harris. Earlier this week, he had hinted at an announcement regarding a presidential debate after withdrawing from an ABC News debate scheduled for September 10. Initially, Trump had preferred Fox News to host the debate but has shown a willingness to reconsider ABC.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump stated, “I will expose Kamala during the Debate the same way I exposed Crooked Joe, Hillary, and everyone else during Debates. Only I think Kamala will be easier.” This statement refers to Democrats Joe Biden and Hillary Clinton. Trump’s running mate, Ohio Sen. JD Vance, has criticized Harris for not holding a press conference or participating in interviews since Biden stepped aside from his presidential reelection campaign. Harris occasionally answers questions shouted at her while boarding or disembarking her plane for campaign stops.
