Former President Trump’s Super PAC has launched a TikTok account, @MAGA, to spread pro-Trump messaging and support his 2024 election efforts. MAGA Inc. CEO Taylor Budowich said, “There’s millions of voters on TikTok, and @MAGA will deliver President Donald J. Trump’s pro-freedom, pro-America agenda every day with the facts and stories that matter.” The move is part of a broader strategy to utilize social media platforms to reach voters and disseminate Trump’s message.
However, TikTok faces a potential ban in the U.S. over concerns about its parent company, ByteDance, and its ties to the Chinese Communist Party. President Biden signed a bill that would force a ban if TikTok doesn’t find a non-Chinese-controlled owner. Despite this, MAGA Inc. is determined to maintain a presence on the platform, believing that it provides a valuable avenue to connect with Trump supporters.
Budowich said, “We aren’t trying to set policy, we are trying to win an election. Big Tech, including Google and Facebook, is actively interfering with our elections, that’s an unfortunate reality.” He added, “We will not cede any platform to Joe Biden and the Democrats who are trying to destroy our country.”
The PAC’s initial TikTok videos focus on the economy under President Biden and promote the idea of an economic “boom” if Trump is elected. They also target Robert F. Kennedy Jr., criticizing his record and past support for Democrats.
While the Biden White House and government devices are prohibited from using TikTok due to national security concerns, the Biden campaign maintains an account on the platform.
TikTok and its parent company, ByteDance, have filed a lawsuit challenging the new U.S. law mandating the app’s sale to a company without ties to the Chinese government. TikTok argues that divestiture is not feasible and would result in the app’s shutdown. The lawsuit highlights the complex geopolitical dynamics surrounding TikTok’s operations in the U.S. and raises questions about the future of the popular platform.
