Trump’s New Insults for Maggie Haberman and False Claims About Manhattan Protesters
Former President Donald Trump has launched a new attack on New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman, calling her a “maggot” and falsely claiming that thousands of supporters were blocked from gathering outside the courthouse where his hush money trial is taking place.
Trump’s claims have been debunked by reporters at the scene. The former president also criticized the judge overseeing the case and suggested that the prosecution is a “scam” and a “hit job.”
In a lengthy post on Truth Social, Trump accused Haberman of falsely reporting that he was disappointed with the crowds outside the courthouse. He also claimed that the streets were closed off by police, preventing supporters from gathering. However, video footage shows that the streets were open to traffic and there were barely any demonstrators in support of Trump.
Trump’s latest outburst is the latest in a series of attacks on Haberman, who has long enjoyed close access to the former president. However, their relationship has soured as Haberman has covered Trump’s behavior in the courtroom, including his inability to stay awake.
Fox News Focuses on Trump’s Grievances Over Trial, Ignores Extensive Coverage
As Donald Trump’s first criminal trial got underway, proceedings received extensive coverage in the media. But over at Fox News, the story is not the center of the news world — and the network’s focus was more centered around Trump’s grievances over the trial, which accuses him of falsifying business records to cover up a hush money payment made to adult movie star Stormy Daniels.
According to The Daily Beast’s Justin Baragona, “The rest of the cable news landscape has devoted round-the-clock coverage to the trial,” but Fox has “mostly dipped in and out.”
“Spending the bulk of its time on the pro-Palestinian protests at Ivy League schools, Fox News has centered a large portion of its Trump trial coverage on criticizing the case and the court’s treatment of the former president,” Baragona wrote.
Kari Lake Reverses Abortion Ban Stance, Again
Arizona Senate hopeful Kari Lake appears to have changed her position on the state’s Civil War era total abortion ban — again.
Immediately after the Republican-controlled state Supreme Court allowed the ban — which was passed decades before Arizona even became a state and makes no exceptions other than to save the life of the pregnant woman — to be enforced, Lake came out with a statement condemning the decision, saying, “it is abundantly clear that the pre-statehood law is out of step with Arizonans.”
She was even reportedly was calling up Republican state legislators and urging them to repeal the ban.
That was already a major reversal from statements she made prior to the judges’ decision, when she called the ban ” a great law ” and expressed the hope it would become enforceable.
But now she appears to have reversed herself yet again in an interview with The Idaho Dispatch, and is attacking Democratic Party leaders in her state for not enforcing the law.
Biden Blasts Trump’s Deal with Evangelicals on Abortion
President Joe Biden Tuesday called out Donald Trump’s deal with conservative evangelicals that led to the revocation of federal abortion rights.
At a campaign stop in Tampa, Biden noted that Trump had taken credit for the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, which protected abortion rights at the federal level.
“He described the Dobbs decision as a miracle,” Biden told supporters. “Maybe it’s coming from that Bible he’s trying to sell . Whoa. I almost wanted to buy one just to see what the hell’s in it.”
Biden explained why the decision to overturn abortion rights was “no miracle.”
“It was a political deal to get rid of Roe,” Biden said. “A political deal he made with the evangelical base of the Republican Party to look past his moral and character flaws in exchange for his commitment to appoint justices to the Supreme Court who would overturn Roe.”
“Don’t think he’s making a deal right now with MAGA extremists to ban nationwide abortion in every single state because he’s making it.”
