Former President Donald Trump’s plane experienced a mechanical issue on Friday, leading to a diversion to Billings, Montana. The incident occurred just hours before a scheduled rally in Bozeman, where Trump planned to support Republican Senate candidate Tim Sheehy. Sheehy is challenging incumbent Democratic Senator Jon Tester in a tightly contested race.
Despite the diversion, Trump is still expected to attend the rally in Bozeman. He posted a video on social media from his plane, expressing his excitement about being in Montana and emphasizing his support for Sheehy. “I just landed in a really beautiful place: Montana. So beautiful, flying over and you just look down and that’s the way it’s supposed to be,” Trump said in the video, making no mention of the plane issue. “I’m here to do some fundraisers and most important to support Tim Sheehy who’s running for the U.S. Senate and we think he’s going to do really well. We’re going to have a rally. And it’ll be a lot of fun.”
It remains unclear whether Trump will fly directly to Bozeman or travel by motorcade. The Bozeman airport CEO, Brian Springer, confirmed that Trump’s plane landed in Billings and that the motorcade expecting his arrival in Bozeman had already left. The Associated Press contributed to this report.
