There was a tense moment at the weigh-in as Nikita Tszyu arrived late and appeared to be struggling to make the weight for his fight against Danilo Creati.
Creati, on the other hand, had no such issues and comfortably made the super welterweight limit of 70kg. His coach, Tony Del Vecchio, revealed that Creati had been able to enjoy a proper meal the night before, such was the ease of his weight cut.
However, when ring announcer Lt Dan Hennessey called for Tszyu to step onto the scales, he was nowhere to be seen. Ben Damon then revealed that ‘The Butcher’ was running late as he needed more time to cut weight. No Limit CEO George Rose confirmed that Tszyu was as much as 1kg over the 70kg limit that morning.
Del Vecchio admitted that he was not pleased with Tszyu’s tardiness, despite the fact that Tszyu would have two extra hours to make the weight. “I want him on the scales now,” Del Vecchio said.
Eventually, a white SUV pulled up to the Entertainment Quarter and Tszyu, wearing sunglasses, made his way to the stage. Thankfully, he weighed in at 69.82kg, meaning the fight was given the go-ahead.
When asked why he was late, Tszyu joked that he had been walking his dogs and lost track of time. However, he also stated confidently that he would be victorious in the fight, saying: “The vegan’s going to eat a sausage tomorrow.”
