Mopreme Shakur, the brother of the late Tupac Shakur, has expressed his disapproval over Drake’s use of an AI-generated Tupac voice in his ongoing feud with Kendrick Lamar. Mopreme believes that Drake’s action was disrespectful and escalatory, comparing it to bringing out a tank or using a nuclear option in a rap battle.
According to Mopreme, Drake’s use of Pac’s voice was a form of weaponization, aimed at gaining an unfair advantage in the battle. He emphasized that the battle should be fought on equal terms, without any external assistance.
Mopreme acknowledged that Kendrick Lamar is a West Coast legend himself, inspired by Pac’s music. However, he believes that Drake’s attempt to push buttons by using Pac’s voice goes beyond the bounds of fair competition.
Despite his criticism of Drake, Mopreme expressed respect for Kendrick Lamar and J. Cole. He stressed that the rap battle should remain a sport and not escalate into physical violence. While he appreciates hearing his brother’s voice, he believes that it should not be used in a battle.
Snoop Dogg, another hip-hop legend, was left speechless when confronted by fans for his reaction to Drake’s song. Mopreme also expressed concern that the use of AI to create a Tupac voice could lead younger generations to confuse it with the real deal.
Suge Knight, the former head of Death Row Records, shared similar sentiments, stating that Pac was a king and should not be used as a pawn in a beef. Mopreme declined to declare a winner in the battle, stating that it was still ongoing.
