Turkey Tops the Charts: UK Travelers Embrace New Holiday Destinations

The UK travel industry is in constant flux, and a new study from travel platform Hellotickets has shed light on the latest trends in British holiday preferences. Researchers used Google Keyword Planner to analyze a whopping 2,566 search combinations across 77 UK cities, revealing fascinating insights into where Brits are planning their next getaway.

The study focused on a range of search terms, including “destination holiday,” “last minute holiday to,” “short holiday in,” “winter holiday in,” and “summer holidays in.” By comparing the total monthly average searches in each city with the corresponding population, the researchers calculated the average monthly searches per 100,000 people.

In a surprising turn of events, traditional favorites like France and Portugal didn’t make it into the top five. Spain, a popular choice for older British travelers, landed in tenth place. Instead, Turkey emerged as the reigning champion, boasting an impressive average of 27,129 Google searches per month.

Cities like Istanbul, Dalaman, Bodrum, and Marmaris are now on the radar for travelers seeking adventure. With numerous airlines connecting the UK to these picturesque locations, it’s easier than ever to explore Turkey’s vibrant culture and stunning landscapes. Major carriers like British Airways, easyJet, Jet2, and Turkish Airlines all offer flights to Turkey.

EasyJet stands out with its routes to three key Turkish cities: Antalya, Bodrum, and Dalaman. Although the airline also operates connecting flights to other parts of Turkey, these three destinations remain popular among travelers. For those seeking winter sun, easyJet offers flights to Antalya starting from just £17. Even in the depths of January, holidaymakers can enjoy pleasant temperatures averaging around 15°C.

Antalya, known for its breathtaking beaches and picturesque harbor, is the fifth most populated city in Turkey, making it an attractive option for those seeking a blend of relaxation and adventure.

Here’s a glimpse at the ten most popular holiday destinations and their average monthly search volumes:

This insightful analysis not only highlights the changing preferences of UK travelers but also emphasizes the ongoing allure of emerging destinations like Turkey. As the travel industry adapts to shifting interests, it will be captivating to witness how these trends evolve in the coming years.
