Two Moroccan Footballers Missing at Sea After Yacht Incident

Two Moroccan players from top-flight football side Ittihad Tanger have been reported missing at sea since Saturday, following a distressing incident involving their small yacht. According to Anass Mrabet, the club’s deputy president, five players from the team were enjoying a cruise off the coast of Tangier when strong currents and heavy winds took hold of their yacht. While swimming in deep waters, the yacht drifted away, leaving the players stranded.

Three players were successfully rescued on Saturday, but the search for Salman Harraq and Abdellatif Akhrif continues. Mrabet revealed that the players were not wearing buoys when they jumped into the water, a fact confirmed by the rescued players.

Akhrif, 24, is an established member of the Ittihad Tanger squad, while Harraq, 18, was on the cusp of joining the senior team this year. The club has been a mainstay in the Moroccan top flight since 2015, achieving their sole league title victory in the 2017-18 season. However, in recent years, they have faced challenges and struggled to maintain a strong position in the league standings.
