Uber is piloting a new rider verification process in 15 U.S. cities. The initiative intends to enhance trust and reliability for both riders and drivers.
Verified riders will display a blue checkmark on their Uber app profile, assuring drivers of their genuine identity. Uber will cross-check rider information provided during signup against third-party databases. Riders may also be prompted to submit government identification for verification.
Drivers will see the verification badge alongside the rider’s name and trip details when commencing a trip. Uber’s Head of Safety, Roger Kaiser, acknowledges rider verification as a top request from drivers nationwide, emphasizing its role in providing drivers with peace of mind on the road.
While verification is not mandatory for Uber rides, its absence may result in delays or slower service, as drivers may prioritize verified passengers. Uber plans to expand the program to additional cities in the coming months.
