The Delhi Transport Department has granted Uber an aggregator license under the Delhi Premium Bus Scheme, enabling the company to operate shuttle bus services for regular commuters in Delhi-NCR. This initiative aims to improve public transportation options and streamline commuting for Delhi residents.
Commuters can pre-book seats on their preferred route by selecting the Uber Shuttle option in the Uber app. This service is designed to meet the needs of daily bus commuters, focusing on reducing road congestion and carbon emissions. Passengers can leverage the Uber app’s features, including pre-booking seats up to a week in advance, tracking the bus’s live location and route, and viewing the estimated time of arrival (ETA).
Air-conditioned buses will operate along predefined routes, connecting business districts with residential areas in Delhi. Each shuttle bus, accommodating 19 to 50 passengers, will be operated by local fleet partners utilizing Uber’s technology. The initial trial was conducted in Delhi NCR, and the service has been operational in Kolkata since last year through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the West Bengal Government.
This initiative offers commuters a convenient and tech-optimized mobility solution. By promoting shared transportation, Uber Shuttle aims to reduce traffic congestion and carbon footprint. It also creates a new source of livelihood for drivers, providing a win-win situation for all stakeholders.
