UConn Men’s Basketball has another top transfer target on campus this weekend: Koby Brea, the nation’s top 3-point shooter at Dayton last season. Brea will begin his visit to Storrs on Friday and stay until Sunday, according to college basketball insider Adam Zagoria. Zagoria also reported that Brea will visit Duke next week from Tuesday to Thursday. The 6-6 guard from Washington Heights, New York, has reportedly narrowed his list to five schools: UConn, Duke, Kansas, North Carolina, and Kentucky – all blue-blood programs with a rich history in college basketball. On3 Sports’ Jamie Shaw reported Friday that UConn and Duke would be Brea’s only visits. During his fourth year with the Dayton Flyers, Brea averaged 11.1 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game while playing 29.1 minutes per game. He led the nation in 3-point percentage, shooting an impressive 49.8% from beyond the arc on 6.1 attempts per game. No other player in Division I shot over 46.5%. “If I had to pick one of those five schools, I would think he’ll go with UConn, everything else being equal,” Dayton Daily News reporter David Jablonski told The Courant on Tuesday. “His family and friends were a big traveling party to so many of his games on the East Coast. Huge crowds at Fordham, La Salle, they go everywhere to see Koby play. If he can land at UConn, I’m sure a lot of people will support that.” Brea shot 37% on 4.8 attempts from beyond the arc in 2022-23, 42.3% as a sophomore (4.3 attempts per game), and 35.5% on 1.8 attempts as a freshman at Dayton. UConn, facing the potential of losing its entire starting five to the NBA, is also in the mix for the top-rated high school recruit in the 2024 class, Liam McNeeley, and for Saint Mary’s guard Aidan Mahaney, who visited Storrs on Thursday. The Huskies have already added former Michigan big man Tarris Reed Jr., who will join Samson Johnson in the frontcourt to help fill the shoes of Donovan Clingan, a projected NBA lottery pick. The Huskies are also set to lose freshman guard Stephon Castle, another projected lottery pick, and top scorers Cam Spencer and Tristen Newton, who both used their fifth year of eligibility last season. Alex Karaban, a redshirt sophomore, is testing his draft potential while keeping the option open to return.
