The calls for Udhayanidhi Stalin’s elevation as Deputy Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu continue to gain momentum. Housing and urban development minister S Muthusamy, who also holds the additional charge of prohibition and excise, has joined the chorus, urging for Udhayanidhi’s promotion. While acknowledging that the final decision rests with Chief Minister M K Stalin, Muthusamy believes that Udhayanidhi’s appointment as Deputy CM would be beneficial for both Tamil Nadu and the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) party.
He made these remarks while responding to reporters on the sidelines of a review meeting with officials in Erode regarding a drinking water scheme. Muthusamy stated, “The chief minister will make the decision. But if Udhayanidhi is appointed deputy CM, it would be beneficial for both Tamil Nadu and the party.”
This statement follows a similar incident that occurred on Friday. While addressing a gathering at an event to launch the ‘Tamil Pudhalvan’ scheme in Ramanathapuram, Tamil Nadu backward classes minister R S Rajakannappan mistakenly referred to Udhayanidhi as “deputy chief minister.” He quickly corrected himself, stating that Udhayanidhi was the sports minister, but suggested that cadres could refer to him as Deputy CM after August 19th.
The growing speculation surrounding Udhayanidhi’s potential promotion has sparked significant interest within Tamil Nadu’s political circles. While the final decision lies with Chief Minister M K Stalin, the public pronouncements from senior party leaders highlight the increasing support for Udhayanidhi’s elevation within the DMK.
