The United Kingdom has announced a record military aid package for Ukraine, adding to the $61 billion worth of U.S. assistance already provided. The £500 million ($618 million) package is the largest-ever single package of equipment from the UK and is designed to help Ukraine push back the Russian invasion on land, sea, and air.
The package includes 60 boats such as offshore raiding craft, rigid raiding craft, and dive boats, as well as maritime guns. Also provided will be more than 1,600 strike and air defense missiles, including Storm Shadow long-range precision-guided missiles. There will also be more than 400 vehicles, including 160 protected mobility ‘Husky’ vehicles, 162 armored vehicles, and 78 all-terrain vehicles, as well as nearly 4 million rounds of small arms ammunition.
The aid package is a significant boost for Ukraine, which has been outmanned and outgunned by Russia. The equipment will help Ukraine to defend its territory and protect its people from Russian aggression.
The UK’s announcement comes as the U.S. is preparing a larger-than-normal package of military aid for Ukraine that will include armored vehicles, such as Bradley Fighting Vehicles, Humvees, and M113 armored personnel carriers. The U.S. aid package is expected to be ready soon after President Biden signs the House bill, which passed on Saturday.
The military aid from the UK and the U.S. is a clear sign of support for Ukraine and its fight against Russian aggression. The equipment will help Ukraine to defend its sovereignty and independence.
